An Approach for the Distribution of Network Management Policies with the Focus on Quality of Service

This article proposes an extension to the Policy Based Network Management (PBNM). Specifically, we propose an approach for the distribution of management policies with the focus on Quality of Service. This approach communicates the management up to the point of decision. This requires corrective actions for the device, reporting changes in the configuration, registering of the managed resources and applying its defined policies for network management. In this context, the message is formatted in XML and HTTP is used for policy distribution among the participants of a distributed system. An advantage of such an approach is to make policy distribution more flexible for devices enabling the sharing of a logical set of policies for the management of resources and services with focus on quality of service.
